John & Honorah were our grandparents. They came from Ireland, married in Petersham N.S.W.and settled in Gippsland, Victoria. Many of their descendants still live in the area as do others in the N.S.W.town of Albury, as well as various parts of Australia. My name is Maureen (grand-daughter), and I welcome any extra information visitors to the site are able to contribute. Particular thanks must go to Kaye O'Reilly (great-grand-daughter) who has provided extensive information on the Gippsland area. Sit back and browse to be fascinated by our ancestry.
FITZGERALD: This is the Norman name used by the Dukes of Leinster. It means "son of Gerald".The family claim descent from Maurice, son of Gerald, who accompanied Strongbow in the Anglo-Norman Invasion. The Gaelic form is MacGeralt. Another branch of the family are the Knights of the Glin, whose castle was built about 1260. The Motto for Fitzgerald is "Brave and faithful".
